Tania Culottes and Lotus Bra

You know that feeling - you’re “browsing” through the aisles at the fabric store and inspiration strikes! I saw this retro mail print on clearance and knew it was destined to be a skirt. Not just any skirt, a skirt that is actually a pair of shorts cleverly hidden within the pleats of the fabric. I had been itching to test out the Tania Culottes by Megan Nielsen for ages (over a year!) before finally taking the plunge.

Pattern is well written and easy to follow - as long as you pay attention to the instructions! In my haste, I had installed the waistband upside-down AND attached the zipper before I realized my mistake.

My favorite part had to be the added instructions of WHEN and WHERE to serge/overlock the frayed edges. No need to guess or serge all pieces individually before starting. Wait, my favorite part was the pockets. Cuz, well pockets!

I also appreciate how the finished measurements matched the pattern chart. Novel idea right? SOMEBODY might have been twirling around in it before it was even hemmed. =)

Might need to make a few (dozen) more. I know quite a few bloggers have made it out of knit successfully so that may be my next version.

Since I had some fabric left over, I decided to make a matching bralette using the Lotus pattern. I’m loving the combo of fabrics - woven cotton and dual layers of bra tulle in blue and black.

I also decided to experiment with foldover elastic to finish raw edges. It worked out quite well and is a great way to practice working with fold over elastic (zig zag) and topstitching (stratight stitch) without the pressure of getting everything “just right” as it will ultimately be hidden.

Well on my way with my hot weather wardrobe. Can’t wait till summer!
